Gracias y Buenas Noches - The Final Southern Cousins Show
After over 3 years of show stoppin' foot-stompin' heart poundin' sweat pourin' southern fried hot brown-eyed rock & soul, Nakia & His Southern Cousins are playing their last show this Saturday night at Jovita's in South Austin.
Never fear, there is more to come soon from Nakia, but for now the Southern Cousins and the Fresh Up Girls will be on an indefinite hiatus.
Please join in us as we celebrate the great music we've made together.
Cari Hutson opens the show at 8PM - Nakia & His Southern Cousins take the stage one last time at 10PM.

Nakia Singing With Alejandro Escovedo At Continental Club
Back in September, I posted a story about Alejandro Escovedo inviting me to sing with him at the recent Buick MacKane reunion show at Hole In The Wall. In that post I talked about bumping into Al at this year's HAAM Benefit Day performance at Whole Foods. That day he mentioned he was preparing for a long series of shows at Austin's legendary, Continental Club. A residency where he would be working out material for the new record he is working on. He invited me to stop by and sing some tunes with him and so I have been.

Remember this Christmas
After losing several loved ones close to me and seeing others around me losing family and friends close to them I got a bit down a few years back. When it really became evident that the war was going to continue keeping our troops away from their families that really put the straw on the camel's back. I sat down at a piano in Alabama and wrote this song in less than an hour.
Last year, I was asked by the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau to put it on their new Happy Holidays From Austin CD compilation. This time I got together a full band for the production and recorded it with Mac McNabb at his studio.
