Hi there!
First - Thanks for reading and supporting the band and me... In addition to our residency on Thursdays at Momo's on W. 6th St. I have a few upcoming shows to tell you about so you can come out, bring your friends, and have a good time! Also at the bottom I've got a quick ACL recap for you if you didn't make it this year. Remember that you can change your details (Name, email address, etc...)by visiting the "Update Profile" link at the bottom of each email I send you!
FRI. 10/17 - SAVE AUSTIN MUSIC GALA-ONE WORLD THEATER
If you don't know about Save Austin Music (SAM) yet and what they are doing, I suggest you head over to their website
and check it out! Hopefully you'll get involved! This event will celebrate
the premiere of their new Public Service Announcements featuring many great Austin musicians. So, come on down to one of Austin's most unique and amazing venues the One World Theater and for about the same amount of money you'd spend on a large pizza and soda you will get something much better: Great Performances from some of Austin's finest musicians! Also included at no extra cost will be LOTS of great food, and LOTS of alcohol! We
go on at 10PM right after Ian McClagan & The Bump Band! After our set we will also be hosting the all-star jam which is sure to rock and have more than a few surprise guests! Be there! Don't read about it later! Info about the event and tickets are here.
SAT. 10/18 - IN HOUSTON with CAROLYN WONDERLAND!
Yes, you read it correct... HOUSTON! We are making our Houston debut this Saturday night with the one & only Carolyn Wonderland! The show is at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar at 1031 E 24th St and we take the stage at 9:30PM just before Carolyn! I realize that most of the folks reading these emails are from Austin, however, I hope you will consider using the "Forward This Email" link at the bottom of this email to send this note on to anyone you know in Houston inviting them out to see the show you've come to know and love so much! We have 3 places on the guestlist for you plus a friend if you reply to this email with "Heat Up Houston" in the subject! This will definitely be a great show to catch and we are really excited to be playing with Carolyn again!
SUN. 10/26 - THE BACKYARD with WILLIE NELSON & FRIENDS
We are so honored to be playing at the Final Celebration at the Backyard. You may have heard of this show already, but if not, it's the last show at the original Backyard before the legendary venue moves to it's newer, roomier, location just down the road a bit. This day will be filled with performances by us, Elizabeth Wills, Lucky Tomblin, Kelly Willis, Grupo Fantasma, Ruthie Foster, and of course - the Red Headed Stranger himself... Willie Nelson. Needless to say, we are excited! We take the stage at 4PM so come early and get good seats!
SAT. 11/1 - SOUTH PADRE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL WOW!
Can you believe it's been a whole year since we played the first annual SPI Music Fest in South Padre Island? The festival really served as a springboard for us and we were blessed to have such a great audience! This year, festival producers said in a recent radio interview that "Nakia & His Southern Cousins were the most requested returning band." This year we'll be playing at Pelican West on Saturday, November 1st. We start at 8PM - Just before my good friends, Fastball! Make no mistake about it... We will be bringing our "A" game back to SPI this year and I hope you'll join us. Tickets are still on sale and I have heard that there is even a chance for you to "Get On The Bus" with a special bus package to and from the festival that includes accommodations. Visit the SPI Music Fest site for info and the full lineup that includes Willie Nelson, Ghostland Observatory, Los Lonely Boys, and Grupo Fantasma! We'll see YOU at the beach! |
CAN YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THIS PHOTOGRAPH??
Well, the dust has settled... Literally! ACL is a couple weeks behind us and I am writing to tell you that it was nothing short of a huge success for us! Thank you for supporting us and turning out to catch the set that many critics and bloggers have called one of the best of the festival this year! It was such an honor to play and so much fun! I was looking closely at this photo taken during our set at the WaMu tent snapped by Ben Sawyer and noticed there are even folks watching from all around outside the tent!! Wow! I am truly blessed. Thank you.
I have posted a bunch of video clips, interviews, audio and more photos at nakia.net and our new Facebook page - facebook.com/nakia !! This includes plenty of footage of what was the highlight of my musical career so far - my appearance on stage with Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings during one of the most attended sets of the weekend! Sharon called me down and I took the opportunity to really give her a run for her money! It was an amazing opportunity for me and I was so glad that after the set, Sharon and I hit it off! Click the photo below to watch a video of Sharon & I getting down and don't miss the one of Sharon talking about the experience with News 8's Andy Langer backstage after we tore up the stage together!
