2007 is gone but it was definitely a
great year for me and I certainly hope it was for you as well. So many
things happened to me as an artist but also as a human being that made
my life so much better and I would like to personally thank you for
being a part of that experience. Below are just some of the
achievements that I accomplished in 2007 with your help. Thank you!
Here's to a great 2008!
- Performed at The Mint in Los Angeles with an all-star line-up of musicians.
- Performed
At the John Lennon Songwriting Contest Bus in Los Angeles at the NAMM
Convention and again at the NAMM Convention in Austin.
- Featured in the John Lennon Bus Book bonus DVD.
- Sang vocals with Will Taylor & Strings Attached at the Jimi Hendrix show.
- Released
"Playing the Cards" EP locally and online featuring performances by
some of Austin's best players and including Monte Warden's, "Making It
Up To My Baby."
- February 15th, 2007 was officially named "Nakia Day" by Austin Mayor Will Wynn. Performed at City Hall to commemorate the event.
- Appeared live on KGSR, KUT, KLBJ, ME Television, FOX 7 News, and multiple podcasts in conjunction with CD release.
- Every
track on the debut CD, "Playing the Cards" was played at least once
on-air by local radio, including: KGSR, KUT, KLBJ, and KOOP.
- SXSW
2007 performances: Four Seasons for KGSR's annual SXSW broadcast, Red
Gorilla Music showcase, Texas Music Magazine party, RajiWorld+1 party,
and the Monterey Pop tribute at Hole In The Wall.
- Sang vocals with Will Taylor & Strings Attached at the Beatles' White Album show.
- Filmed ME Television Live! Special at Antone's for the Emerging Artists Series.
- Performed dates at the Continental Club, Maria's Taco Xpress, Mercury Hall, Antone's, Ego's, and more.
- Performed
at the VIP party for Texas Hill Country Wine & Food Festival, the
1st Annual Austin Ice Cream Festival, 2007 Batfest, and the 1st Annual
South Padre International Music Festival.
- Performed the songs of Otis Redding once again at the second Monterey Pop tribute show. This time at Threadgill's.
- Invited to perform at the 10th Annual Atlantis Music Conference in Atlanta, GA.
- Sang
vocals with Will Taylor & Strings Attached at the Beatles' Sgt.
Pepper's shows and recorded the vocals for the companion CD.
- Invited
to perform at the grand re-opening of the Austin Music Hall along with
Kacy Crowely, Gary Clark, Jr., Bobbie Nelson, and Del Castillo.
Performed encores with Del Castillo.
- Began recording new material for the follow up full-length album to be released sometime this year.
- "Playing the Cards" chosen by Margaret Moser of the Austin Chronicle as one of her "Texas Top 10s"
Like
I said... It's been a fantastic year! So many blessings. If I left off
something you know of - remind me! It's been a long holiday and I am
sure I forgot something, but for now, this is the best list I can give
you.
I lost a lot of really good friends and family members
this year and these things wouldn't have been possible without them as
well, so a big thank you to them and their families, and of course - as
always - to my amazing band, my wonderful booking agency, and the one
and only Roberto the Faithful.
Now call the neighbors and wake the kids! Get out to Ego's tonight! See ya there!
