Hello Internets! Number 1 - iLike Us… Do You??

Well, folks - the band is making the leap onto Facebook and some other sites and in doing so, we are going to also try using iLike.com as the medium to get this stuff to all of these various sites. If it works - it will kick über-ass and if it doesn’t - well, who said the Internets were perfect?

Nakia & His Southern Cousins Voted Austin Music Awards #6 Best New Band - Thank You Austin Music Fans!!

Thank you to anyone and everyone who voted for Nakia & His Southern Cousins this year in the Austin Music Awards. Whether you picked us for something individually or the band as a whole. After the lovely Ms. Margaret Moser tallied up all the votes, we are honored to say that Austin chose us as one of the Top Ten Best New Bands of 2007 in Austin! Number 6 to be exact! My hat is off to YOU - The Austin music fans who come out to shows, buy music, tip us, and share the good word with their friends and family about the band!
Also - in an odd turn of events, a poster that I designed for our run of Happy Hours at the legendary Continental Club last Summer was voted the 10th Best Concert Poster for the awards as well! Seriously - A surprise, but a welcome one! THANK YOU! Here’s a smaller version of that poster for your downloading pleasure.

I have been out and about a lot already this SXSW and caught a lot of great acts at some wonderful parties, including last night’s Music Awards, the Mayor’s Reception, and the Red Bull Moon Tower party! I must say that so far, by accident, I have seen The Black & White Years 3 times and all I can say is WOW! They are simply put… The REAL DEAL. Their official showcase is tonight at Maggie Mae’s.
Speaking of showcases, don’t forget about our official one at Lambert’s Downtown BBQ on 2nd and Guadalupe Friday night at Midnight! Then we will be playing the RajiWorld +1 Party on Saturday at 7:30pm. Here are the posters (Guess which one I designed??)for those shows as well! Hope to see you out there! Then next Friday it’s business as usual at Ego’s Lounge.

Rest In Peace: Buddy Miles

I just got a very sad text message indicating that legendary drummer, Buddy Miles passed away. According to his official website, Buddy crossed over in the presence of his friends and family last night, February 26th, 2008, here at his home in Austin, TX.
I was very privileged to have met Buddy several times and see him perform. This photo was taken following my performance with Will Taylor & Strings Attached for the Jimi Hendrix show in January of 2007. Buddy was on hand and told me that “Jimi would have been proud.” That is something that I will never forget. Buddy Miles was a good soul and will be missed by many.
