This email is packed full of great news so I won’t keep you long with my chit chat. I will say that tonight is the last August Ego’s Lounge show and that I hope to see you out there at 8:30!
September is full of great stuff for me and the Southern Cousins including a show back at the Continental Club filling in for The Mother Truckers NEXT THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH!! Don’t forget that this is a First Thursday show and it will be rockin’!
I will be putting up some downloadable graphics on my website that you can post on your MySpace pages, blogs, etc. I’ll let you explore the rest of the email to find out what else is going on!

Batfest This Sunday! You Better Ask Somebody!
We are really excited to be playing this year’s Batfest on Sunday. We will be on the KGSR/Robin stage starting at 3PM. The Austin Chronicle lists it as a recommended event and Margaret Moser goes on to mention the band as “the soon-not-to-be-unknown Nakia & His Southern Cousins” - That rocks! Admission is $4 and remembmer that kids under 10 get in FREE!! Do It!!
First Thursday At Continental Next Week!
Not much more to say about the Happy Hour shows at Continental Club. Everyone knows that it’s the place to be for a good drink and great music. But when you add the fact that this is a First Thursday and that SoCo is going to be boiling over with excitement and fun, it’s a no brainer: Get down to the Continental and shake with the band. Do It!
Fridays At Ego’s Residency Extended Into September
The shows at Ego’s Lounge have just been outstanding! The Southern Cousins are really becoming a force to be reckoned with and we’ve been blessed to have the Fresh Up Girls at the shows as well. So it’s with great joy that I am announcing today that Ego’s has extended this amazing Friday night residency into September! So if you have been waiting… Now is the time to get out there and catch the show! Do It!
I hope to see you out at one of the many shows coming up this month. I will also be appearing with Will Taylor & Strings Attached for the reprise of Sgt. Pepper Live at the end of the month. Stay turned for more info on that too!
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has continued to vote for the last 30 days during Round 1 of the ACL Sound & The Jury Contest. With your help, Nakia & His Southern Cousins have secured a slot in the Top 50 and that sends us on to Round 2!
Now, according the contest website, “celebrity judges will choose their Top 20 bands from the list of 100.” So all we can do now is keep playing shows and doing our thing and hope to be chosen from the list! Once we move into Round 3, then it’s ON! We will have 8 days to get as many votes as possible and the Top 5 will then perform at Antone’s in front of the celebrity judges to determine the winner!!

Take A Dive Into Ego’s, Friday Nights
The band’s residency at Ego’s Lounge has been great great! So great that they have asked us to extend it into September! So, if you haven’t made it out there yet, make sure to stop in soon. There’s not another room like Ego’s in Austin, that’s for sure!
The show starts at 8:30 and features the best of the material we’ve been playing and some new stuff too! As you can see, The Fresh Up Girls have been joining us each week helping turn up the heat!
Lick It Up! Enjoy Saturday In The Park
After you get fired up with us tomorrow night, then wake up Saturday morning and cool off with some yummy ice cream as we headline the 1st Annual Austin Ice Cream Festival!
The whole thing is taking place at Waterloo Park in downtown Austin from 10AM - 7PM. The band and I take the stage at 4:30 for a one hour set that is sure to be hot enough to melt your cone!!
So, if you scream for ice cream, bring yourself, your friends, your family and even your dog to the 1st Annual Austin Ice Cream Festival. This free event will include lot’s of games, activities, contests and live entertainment as well as what we all scream for: ICE CREAM! See the ICE CREAM TRUCK.
