Oh Atlanta!

Posted on August 24, 2004

It never ceases to amaze me. Coming to Atlanta always brings back such vivid memories of my time here in 1995 and 1996. Working with Brenden O’Brien, out every night with the BMG, Sony, or UNI gangs, becoming who I would later be today and forever.

I arrived in Atlanta Sunday morning around 9AM. It was a cool morning and I wasn’t expecting that at all. I rolled into my friend’s Tim Byrne’s place and quickly grabbed a shower and a much needed nap. I had driven straight from Austin on Saturday afternoon, only stopping for gas, food and a light nap at the Mississippi/Alabama state line. I was beat. Of course, I immediately had whacked out dreams from the lack of sleep, but I didn’t care. I love dreams. Good or bad.

I woke up to do a quick rehearsal, get dressed and ready for the night’s “house concert” that Tim was putting on. He and I kinda had the idea of showcasing me with another act, Arlington Priest - a husband and wife duo from here in Atlanta that are freaking AMAZING!. The crowd was great, the room was quiet, and the show was a total success. I definitely made some new friends, and fans.

Here’s a pic from that set.

Monday was my return to the Monday Night Open Mic at Eddie’s Attic. My slot was at 10, but I went ahead and showed up for the whole run. As usual, there was some really great talent out last night, but of course that means that there is always going to be some less than talented folks as well. A couple of performers had words over some less than sportsmanlike behavior, and others got drunk. I didn’t get chosen for the final round, but my performance was solid and I felt great about the night. Again, I made lots of new friends and signed lots of folks up for my email list and hopefully gained some new fans.

Here’s a photo that was taken from the show. (no flash, so it’s a bit dark and grainy, but Tim was trying not to disturb me - thanks Tim!)

Today, I hung out with Tim and had some lunch at Universal Joint here in Decatur. I might be out later to see my good friend Brian. Or I might end up at Taco Express or both. Not sure.

Of course, tomorrow night is my first solo slot at Eddie’s. I recently discovered that you can view the performance online if you can’t make it down to the show! So, if you want to do that (it cost $4) check out Phlash.net and get set up. I go on tomorrow night at 8PM Eastern time. I hope to see you there!

More soon…
