OK - I got plenty of rest and now it’s time to give you an update.
Choose Austin First was a GREAT experience! I finally got to meet Amy of Amy’s Ice Cream and lots of the other Austin merchants who were taking part in it. I really want all of you to support local music AND local merchants…not just the music! We’re all in this together!
We raised a lot of money at the booth, but the whole day is going to benefitSIMS, so I am stoked!! Lou Lou and the gang are really on the ball right now! It was cool to get to see the bands that Paul had lined up. Man, he’s a booking genuis! I wish he would book me! Hmmmm…Paul? Here’s the line-up:
Mispent Youth
Chapparal
The Greencards
Fastball
(yep - that band that had all those hits that I REALLY like! It was my first time to see them live. Good stuff!)
I sampled a bit of everything and enjoyed myself a lot. Like I said, the highlight was meeting Amy and her husband, Steve and their little boy, Henry. He’s a doll!!
A special thanks to everyone who came, donated time or money or goods or services or music.
Then, Sunday, we had some folks over for a little grill out. A special thanks to everyone who made it. It was a good time for sure and everyone had a blast!
The rest of the week was spent doing follow-up work for SXSW and of course…
Getting ready for PRINCE!! That’s right! Tonight, I am going to see Prince with Scott, Josh, Rick & Sara, and I guess Perry too! I haven’t heard the final word. But regardless, it was a gift from Scott for my birthday and I can’t tell you how excited I am! OMG! I have been a fan for a long time! Scott is a member of the fan club and so we will get really good seats. Guaranteed in the section closest to the stage. WOW!
I am also a bit nervous, as I am going to be doing an interview with KXAN - NBC channel 36 today around 10am at Graffiti’s. I have been asked by Susie Cohen (gosh! I hope I am spelling that right!) to talk about my experiences as a SIMS client. I am sure it will go good. They are also going to film me playing a few songs. Nice, huh? I hope that it helps reach other musicians who need the service though and that it helps spread awareness about mental health disorders in general.
It’s a big deal, you know?
OK, it’s WAY past my bedtime. Cheers!
~Kia
