Bleu, Purple, and all colors in between…

Oh dear lord! What an amazing week!
So, here is what I have for you, the faithful. (By the way, thanks for the late posting)
It’s official!
3.18.04
Church of the Friendly Ghost
Austin, TX
Bleu, Nakia, Greek Embassy, and one more to be added soon!!!
Yep- Yours truly in a showcase DURING SXSW with Bleu and his keyboard player’s new band, Greek Embassy. All the details are starting to make themselves known now, but I will keep you posted!
Now…as many of you know, last weekend, I celebrated 29 years on the planet Earth. On my actual birthday, Friday, February 20th, I went out with many of my good friends to see an AMAZING band called, Particle. Before we went out, I wrote the keyboard player a note to announce my arrival and to tell him what an amazing set they played during ACL Festival in September. THEN…during the show, Steve, the keyboard player and some of the other guys took a set break and came out into the audience to get a drink and to see what was shaking. I took the chance and introduced myself to Steve and let him know I was the guy who had written to him earlier and tell him that the show was great, I was keyboard player and that it was my birthday. He immediately smiled, shook my hand, and said, “well, happy birthday man…do you drink tequila?” I nodded yes and he replied, “well, you need some of this shit. It’s good, man…Patron.” I shot it, and thanked him. I spent the rest of the evening on cloud 12 in front of the key setup, grooving to his every note. He is an amazing musician and that band is out of this world. I returned home, and wrote a follow up email thanking him for his kindness, and his amazing showmanship. The next day, I received this reply:
“Kia…
So I just read both of your messages…sorry I didn’t get your first one until after the show! That’s pretty cool though that it was you I met at setbreak! I never really come out and walk around I just felt like checking out the scene that night since it was so jumpin’! Happy Birthday! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Also, thank you so very much for your kind words…they were a reminder and an inspiration…
See you soon…next time I’m in town I bet you’ll have a cd recorded, so bring one by the show so I can check it out! Good luck…I think that this will be a great year for you…
-Steve”
WOW! How cool…he really touched me as a person and a musician last weekend. Thanks Steve and to the band for such a great birthday bash! Also a shout out to my new friend Rick (from Kerby Lane) that I met at the show! And a big thanks to those who went out with us!
Sunday was my actual party, something I haven’t had in a long time for my birthday. LOTS of folks stopped by. I am going to be posting a clip from my birthday on here really shortly. Look for it in the next 24 hours! I got some really cool gifts and I got a little intoxicated. hehe
Purple? You say? Well, that is ANOTHER GIFT…today, Scott bought me a ticket to see none other than his Royal Badness, the Purple One himself…PRINCE!! In Dallas, April 2nd - I totally shit a purple turd!! Can you believe it?? I was SO RAISED on Prince and the Revolution and all the Prince records that it’s sick! I am SO EXCITED! I have always wanted to see him. This is part of the Musicology tour and according to the website and comments made at his press conference and on the Leno show the other night, this will be THE LAST TIME HE PLAYS THE HITS!! (Granted he and everyone else in this industry have said that at some time or another but we’ll take it as the Gospel this time around to be safe!) I tried to call as many of my Prince buddies as I could to let them know in advance to join the NPGMUSICCLUB.COM so you could get advance tickets, but alas I wasn’t able to contact you all. I hope you got ‘em!
So, the new week holds a lot for me. I am rehearsing, I am making calls, going to meetings, scoping out the venue (I am the sole organizer of this event with Bleu during SXSW) and getting ready to make an impact!
As a side note to a good friend…you know who you are…if you’re reading this. I didn’t mean to hurt you. You are a big part of my life and I don’t want to see our friendship end. Please call or be in touch.
This is what it sounds like when the doves cry…

It’s Still Ringing…
Posted on February 11, 2004
Wow! What else can I say but wow! It was a very great nice thanks to lots of really great folks.
Tonight, my video for “Broken Spoke,” a song I wrote while touring last summer, aired for the first time EVER…ANYWHERE! It was pretty exciting. Especially exciting was the VJ on Austin Music Network, Evan, who premiered the video. Apparently, he had already watched the clip and was impressed. So, he had some really nice things to say about the video before it aired.
He also took a moment to promote my show coming up tomorrow night at Graffiti’s Grill up on West Howard Lane. This place was where I started doing open mic with Steve Syx and he really got into my stuff and asked me to do his last Sky Lounge show with him. Y’all should remember, Steve. The owners are good folks and the food is great. I hope you all can make it tomorrow.
I took a chance to stop by tonight to see my friends, Ian & Steve, who host Karaoke there. They had already been plugging my show and inviting peopel out and when they saw me, they just lit up and asked me to get up and sing one of my standards, “My Life,” by Billy Joel. It was a good time for sure. Thanks to everyone I met tonight who said they would be out to see me tomorrow.
Don’t forget. It’s at 9PM. Graffiti’s. West Howard Lane. Austin. BOOYA!
Speaking of tomorrow, I will be giving away some free stuff from the stage, so I suggest being there for sure. It will be a good time. Get there early and stay late.
Thanks again to everyone who was chilling with us over at 9601 tonight to watch the video premier. It was good times.
Peace-
~Kia
