Lay Off The Text, Bro!

Posted on January 21, 2004

Hi Gang-

Sorry for the delay in posts over the weekend and this week! I am trying to busy myself with enough music stuff to keep me away from the computer and it seems to be working!

I had several good rehearsals over weekend. A couple with Roger, the bass player and Beans and a couple without Roger. Beans and I are really clicking well together and Roger is fitting in quite nicely also. He’s so good he can play and text message on his cell phone at the same time! OK, he wasn’t THAT good while he was doing it, but it was funny! LOL! Beans and I snuck in an extra rehearsal on Monday while he was out of work, and man it was great!

Last night, as some of you know, I got to go back down to San Antonio again for another Texas Songwriters Night at Casbeers! Kim and Glenn and Chris were GREAT as always, and I got up pretty early, to a really big crowd. Man, it was fun! I have say, that there was an 11-year old girl there who I was REALLY impressed with. She had such a good presence and sound. She is going to be killer when she’s older.

I did two songs last night due to the number of folks who showed up, or I would have normally peformed three. The first was a brand new number called, “Bright & Firery Light” and then another newer, but not as new, track called, “Move On.” The crowd really seemed to dig them and I got them on DV tape and CD for reference. Not sure that they will be available anytime in the near future, but we’ll see.

I contacted a guy named Ken Fountain today who just finished animating this GREAT video for Glen Phillips’ tune, “Brain Trust Kid.” You HAVE to see this video. Head over to Glen’s site to check it out! I basically thanked him for doing such an outstanding job and also asked him if he would be interested in working on a video for “Weatherman” or any other tracks of mine.

Speaking of video… Thanks to Jacob Brown, I am now editing the DV footage from the summer tour FINALLY!! I have started by trying to put together a video for “Broken Spoke” but I hope to eventually also do a basic tour overview video as well and turn into some kind of DVD or maybe a press kit thing. Hmmm…what do y’all think?

OK. I guess that’s all I got for now. Thanks for staying in tune with me. Let me hear from you if you’re out there reading this!

Not Getting Hopped On Hopes For SXSW

Posted on January 15, 2004

Hello, hello, hello…

So, I read in the Austin Chronicle today that they are starting to send out invites to the SXSW Music Festival. I am excited, but I am not getting too excited. I wasn’t invited last year, but you never know. I think I am good enough…and people like me! LOL! The thing is they send out all the major label stuff first and the overseas folks and the ones that they just “gotta have” b/c they are hot indies and they send out most of the Austin ones last. But I have recently been told by an insider that Austin will make up for a quarter of the acts this year! So, keep your fingers crossed.

I signed up for some new web promo services last night and today. ClearChannelNewMusicNetwork and IUMA and something else! Man, they are all so confusing. They won’t be active for a few more days, but you can bet as soon as they that I will post the info for you here and on the website. Each will host MP3s and have bio, live shows, and other info, as well as some pics too! SWWWEEETT!

I have been getting lots of hits from AwareReps.com since it went live and I couldn’t be happier about it. As most of you know, I worked for Aware as an intern and I have been a Rep since 2001 and the Aware Reps kick ass! Everyone I have worked with through that program is really cool and have been so supportive of the tunes. A special shout out to Scott Webb and Angel Hall, who recently visited the site, and checked out some tunes. For their feedback, I am sending them a special edition CD for FREE! I hope to continue to build a fan base from the Aware Reps group. They are good people.

So, I am just gearing up for rehearsal tomorrow night with The Beans and Roger and hopefully more on Saturday with at least Beans. Then next Tuesday is San Antonio at Casbeers for the monthly Texas Songwriters Night with Glenn and Kim! I hope some of you locals can make it.

Time for some rest and another day of going at it!

Until next you read…

Rehearsal rocking!

Posted on January 13, 2004

Well, lots more has been done to the website. I made some pretty substantial changes in the way the “scoop” page runs. Now you can click on the links to have a mini-window pop up and view the bio, press releases, reviews, interviews, and I added the FAQs back, so them too!

Rehearsal with just me and Beans went very well tonight. We worked on “Another Lie…Please Forgive Me,” “L.U.C.Y.,” “Move On,” and a brand new song that is probably going to be called “Not This Liberty.” I am not sure about the title yet. All of these songs worked very well together and I am really anxious to get Roger’s bass in the mix. I am going to try and go out to a show tomorrow night to see Rick Gonzalez’s band, The Chapters. You may remember them…I used to be their keyboard player! But I have dicked around and missed a few shows already. I owe it to myself to go out and see them though, because they are a good band and really good guys to hang out with.

Looks like we will get back together for rehearsal with Roger on Friday if all goes well though, and things are rolling. I get into some serious rehearsal for my solo gigs coming up soon also.

So, lots going on it seems. All is well with the music. All is well is the website and my progression of learning more about code. I wish I could say all is well back in AL where I am from, but it’s not. My Grandmother has been out of sorts lately because she fell and she is recovering. So, I hope to see her soon and that she gets well quick!

OK. That’s all for me.

All the best.
