Howdy folks! Nakia here. I will be taking some time each day before I head out to try and make sense of what happened the day/night before during SXSW.
So, here’s a recap…
I got a haircut at Bird’s from Sarah. She’s a frakkin’ nutjob and I love her to death! Go see her and say hi from me!
Lunch at Threadgill’s with Roberto the Faithful. Hmmm… King Ranch Chicken….
Met up with Roggie (@rajiworld) and headed over to The Belmont for the Verizon Wireless party presented by Texas Music Magazine.
They had some great folks on their line up including Ben Kweller (@benkweller) and Ray Wylie Hubbard. Confirmed that there is a review of Water To Wine coming out in the April issue of the magazine, exchanged numbers with Ray Wylie about doing some co-writing, and gave Ben props for a set well played. Roggie and I met up with Whitaker from Loophole Management – a fellow Alabamian – and then headed out for a regroup.
Then it was over to Stubb’s for the Diggnation party. Veeped it up on the balcony and bumped into Guy Kawasaki (@guykawasaki) and Kevin Rose (@kevinrose).
That party was sick! It was packed to the gills and some freak magician pour a crazy mix of milk and OJ and liquor through his nose and out of his mouth only to have people drink out of it… WFT!!??
After we jumped that party, we headed back to Roggie’s pad to regroup again and prep for my show at Antone’s with Carolyn Wonderland & Gary Clark, Jr. We changed and popped over to 5th and Lavaca for load-in. The room was packed and the crowd was ready. It was one of my favorite sets from any recent memory. Met a lot of new folks who were instantly converted to “Cousins” and sold a bunch of CDs, but most of all, I got to share a stage with some of my favorite musicians in a venue that I love and respect so much. It was an honor and a blessing. Thank you to everyone at Loophole and to Susan Antone for making it happen.
Here’s a clip from the show performing the Bobby Whitlock penned “Where There’s A Will There’s A Way.”
Finally, it was time to head over to The Driskill and check out that scene. I had bumped into Miles Zuniga (@mileszuniga) earlier at The Belmont and he mentioned he was playing there. We arrived to find the place packed like a can of sardines with people talking so loud I couldn’t hear myself think. Andy Langer was on hand, but stragetically placed near an exit. Smart move, Andy. It took us forever to get through the crowd and back to leave.
At this point, I dropped Roggie off and began “tweeting” for any word of good after hours parties. I heard from some folks about a PureVolume House party, but opted to hang with a friend for a while and then crash hard.
