This Artist Has Emerged
I am listening to Cincinnati
from the album “Royal Street Inn” by Rex Moroux
on my iTunes right now!
First, let me say that if you don’t know my friend Rex Moroux – you’re TOTALLY missing something VERY special. He’s just fantastic. This song Cincinnati just haunts me every time I hear it. Hey Rex!
OK – Now, let me say THIS…
Thank you Antone’s Nightclub, ME TV, Austin Music Foundation, my amazing band, the best booking agent in the world – Roggie Baer, Roberto the Merch Guy, the Lone Star Bears, The Gay Place, and everyone who came out to the show tonight! I saw so many people I haven’t seen in a while and it just warmed my heart to reconnect with each of you. I also was treated to new fans who, as they put it, had been “following me on the Internet” and came out to see their very first Nakia show!
Well, they couldn’t have picked a better one to start with!!
Here’s the set list from tonight’s show:
Down In A Pinch
Don’t Fight It
Broken Spoke
Ain’t Nuthin’ But The Rent *NEW SONG
Making It Up To My Baby
Driving Wheel
Playing The Cards
Texas Crescent Moon
Little Red Rooster
Touch, Feel, & Lose
Overall I was really pleased with the whole production. ME TV’s staff was super professional, Antone’s folks were just outstanding (thanks James and Byron), the band was tight and although I made a big bruise on my knees at the end of the set from doing a “twist and fall” on Touch, Feel, and Lose – I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
I was so blessed to be up there on that stage tonight. SO MANY great performers came before me and many artists just like me got their start ironing out their acts right there in that room. (or one of the other locations of Antone’s.) As I performed I could see Clifford staring at me from across the room and I felt like… Well, I really felt like it was what he wanted. Only two weeks before he passed he talked with me and Roggie about booking me at the club. You can thank Clifford for nurturing folks like Carolyn Wonderland, Ruthie Foster, Gary Clark, Jr., Del Castillo, Eve Monses, and so many more… Now, the club has a wonderful opportunity to continue that tradition with this great series from ME TV that benefits one of my favorite organizations in town, Austin Music Foundation. It was good to see the Suzanne and Alissa from AMF out tonight as well!
I have posted some pictures from the show over at my Flickr page and you can see them right now by clicking right here. (And if my niece Heather is reading this, don’t worry – there are no “naked boobies” so you won’t get in trouble if you open it at school!)
Seriously – If you came out tonight, thank you SO much. If you couldn’t make it for whatever the reason, know that I will have some video and audio of the show sooner than later and I will share it as I am able to.
The next show on the books is Maria’s Taco Xpress on Wednesday, May 16th! So get ready to get your taco munchies on, have a cold one, and groove with us in South Austin!
