Such A Small Stage For Such A Large History

Well, tonight, I was privileged to perform at the Cactus Cafe here in Austin. If you’re not in the loop, that means I got to perform on a seriously major stage. One that everyone from Robert Earl and Lyle to Shawn Colvin and Ani have graced at one point or another. Oh…Did I mention, Nanci Griffith??

Anyway, I was a ball of nerves to say the least. I started out a bit rough with “Weather Man” but found myself half-way through that and all the way out of “Family Veins.” The set up is VERY similar to the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville, TN. You get 2 songs, or 10 minutes to set up, perform and get off the stage. Coincidentally, when I was searching for the link to Blue Bird I found out that they keep an archive of their open mic nights online at this video website. I had filmed footage while I was there of course, and Scott and Robert and Josh Terry all watched the video streaming that night, but now YOU TOO can see the night that I got to perform at the Blue Bird Cafe. I did Weather Man and Sunshine. If you are on a fast connection, you should haven’t any problem just fast forwarding to the end of the show. I started around 45 minutes into the feed I think. You will have to register, but hey – it’s NAKIA @ THE BLUE BIRD!! Come on!! Ok – Here’s the link: Nakia @ The Blue Bird Cafe – June 30, 2003

If you have RealPlayer, then you might be able to just put this URL into the Open Location field:

Very VERY cool! It was truly a magical night for me, and you will see/hear if you watch the stream, not a bad performance.

OK – Back to the Cactus. So, I did my numbers and got a great response. I had several folks afterward who stopped me to comment on how much they enjoyed the material and my voice. The hosts seemed impressed as well. I know I was very grateful to have had the chance to get up there and I even got lucky and was number 5! They draw from a beer pitcher!

In acting news, Erin and I have settled on the 2 shots that, Steven Noreyko took for my headshots. _016 and _083. I can’t wait for them to go up on the Agence Talent website! You won’t believe the magic that Steven and his Nikon worked! I know I was shocked! LOL!

Well, it’s late and I need shuteye. Please be in touch. And for other Bloggers out there – Don’t you dig the new Blogger.com look? I know I do!

All the best -

~Kia
