Corpus Christi – Hot, Humid…SWELL!

So, with a twist of a key, a shift of a gear, and an iPod full of songs, I headed to Corpus Christi on Friday to perform at the grand opening of the new art gallery in town, John Medina’s, SWELL. The show, appropriately named, “Fresh,” was a real blast! John really went all out to promote the thing. (With a few tricks he learned from one unnamed source -cough-Nakia) A lot of press in advance as well as plenty of real, live press at the event itself. I must admit, I was impressed.

The art was outstanding. John did a great job of gathering together the finest artists he could find to exhibit some extraordinary work. I have some video of the pieces that I will be posting when I figure out how to do that here. But, between the artists, John, and the press, there were enough people to make this thing a real throw down.

I really screwed up though and accidentally stopped the tape from recording instead of starting it when I began my set, so I didn’t get ANY of my performance filmed for my ever-growing archive of video footage. (insert LARGE sad frown) But never fear, there is talk that someone else might have snagged some video footage of me. I hope so. The set was nuts! I got a lot of requests as the night winded down and it dwindled into more of a private party for John and his friends and family. They all wanted to hear something different, and although I warned them up front that I wasn’t much of a cover act, they insisted they didn’t mind me screwing up their classic favorite songs…so I did! LOL! I think it went very well though. I sold lots of CDs and made lots of new fans. If you’re one of them and you’re reading this, THANKS FOR COMING OUT!

Here’s the one pic that John found for me so far. He says he hopes to find more. Also there is audio coming from a NPR interview that John did prior to the opening where he hyped me to heaven and back apparently, so I will be adding that to the download section of the site.

By the way…it’s HOT or should I say HUMID down there in Corpus, folks. Bring your own fan!
