Here Comes The Summer…Get Out The Map!
Is it just me or can anyone else feel summer creeping up to pounce on us and give us another few months of heat and beautiful scenery? It just feels like the time to make some travel plans. My travelin’ bone is achin’ as Tony Joe White would say. I am looking at dates in July – August for a summer tour. I could use any help out there you folks have. Contacts at clubs, booking agents, etc. Shoot me an email.
Well, to backtrack just a tad…
1. Prince was AMAZING. All I can say about that show was that Prince came out, he demanded respect, he gave 110% of himself and the band to Dallas and we gave him 110% back + the respect he deserved. WOW!
***Here’s some pictures from my trip to see Prince***

As you can see through the window behind me, the “sky was all purple…” isn’t that great??

I think the semetry in this pic is friggin’ cool! Powerlines rock. Anyone else seen the new, scary metal ones yet? Very robotic, futuristic looking.

We arrive at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. We ’bout to get our Prince on!

And then, as you can see, my memory gets a bit fuzzy…but it was a blast! Thanks to Marney for a great birthday present! 6th Row Prince!! And at one point, on the front row! It was just amazing!
2. The amp was blown after all (remember from our SXSW posts?) and so Behringer USA, (Lord, love ‘em) is replacing the thing for free. Which reminds me, I need to send that off tomorrow.
3. I volunteered for SIMS again on Sunday, April 6th at the first annual “Dancin’ In The Street” fundraiser for the organization. I was asked to do another interview about my involvement with SIMS along with Bob Schneider (his new site rocks!) and Patrice Pike, who both performed. I figured out that I am WAY out of shape from my experiences dancing with Lou Lou, SIMS Executive Director, and I got to meet Mayor Will Wynn, and lots of other folks. It was a good time and I look forward to doing it next year.
4. The interview that ran on KXAN went really well. It was in conjunction with the SIMS fundraiser above and they did a nice piece on me and even featured me singing Weather Man and Family Veins. I am still waiting on my copies of the piece, but you can view it online by going here.
5. I took a very part-time job catering for Amy’s Ice Creams. I basically just show up, pack up some ice cream and supplies and head out with some other folks to scoop it, unless it’s pre-scooped. Real easy, hours are WAY flexible. GREAT place to work and it’s an Austin Institution, man!
6. I went to see Indigo Girls at Stubb’s last Friday, the 16th. WOW! They were great…as always. I think this makes five, maybe six times I have seen them. This was a duo show with no band. I was lucky enough to get listed by Russell Carter Artist Management – Thanks Russell!
7. Marney got a new camera. He has shot several images of me to test the thing out. (See images above.) Some of the stuff we are actually going to use. I am trying to get Beans involved in taking some pictures too, but he’s harder to nail down for time to shoot. It’ll happen soon though.
Overall, things are great on the front. Here’s a quick run-down of some highlights:

Will be featured in the upcoming May 3rd edition of Siren Song Magazine.
Several shows coming up in late April and all through May, including two new venues, and one new city!
Well, that’s all the update I got left in me for now. Hopefully be around here more often, but know when I am not, it just means I am busy as hell, trying to make this life even better.
Much love to you all-
~Kia
